#3 - Word of the Day / Mailing List for Families studying German as a Foreign Language

The following 2 links have been suggested by the Nuerge Family. Thank you!

Subscribe to the German Word of the Day at <http://www.transparent.com/wotd/today/german_wotd.htm

A mailing list for families that study German as a Foreign Language has been established at <www.egroups.com/group/DaF-Fam/>

The description reads:
For families who speak German at home, even though it is the native language of neither of the parents, nor the main language in the area where they live. This can include families in which both parents speak exclusively German with the children, or families with older children who decided to learn the language "as a family", as well as all families in between.
The purpose of the list is for the families to support each other in various ways, including questions about "baby language" and other household vocabulary (native German speakers are welcome to participate to this end), questions about approaches to bilingualism (OPOL, ml@h, teaching methods and materials), participation in German culture and holidays even though you are not German and are not living in a German speaking area, as well as any other related topic.
The working language of the list will be primarily German, although clarifications in other languages will be allowed.

#1- Projekt Gutenberg: Classic German Literature online

As the holiday seasons approaches, we are reminded that traditionally this was the time in German-speaking countries when families gathered around the "Kachelofen" for crafts and stories. If you would like to turn off your TV one evening and entertain your children with an old fairy tale, you can find plenty of them at the Projekt Gutenberg, an archive of German language texts by more than 350 classic authors. It contains more than 2 million book pages in over 40,000 files.

Also available are Fabeln and Sagen.
For a complete overview, please visit the Projekt Gutenberg homepage at
