German School of the East Bay

This is a beginners class  for teenagers without any previous knowledge of German.
The textbook “Pingpong Neu” focuses on themes like family, friends, life at home and at school, topics  that students of this age group can relate to. Students will develop basic skills in speaking,  listening, reading and writing. Grammar and vocabulary are presented in variable and interesting ways as they relate to the themes of the textbook. Besides stories, there are dialogues and games interspersed throughout. The goal is for students to be able to carry on  simple conversations in German and to read and narrate stories using basic sentence structure, in speaking and writing.
Although the teacher explains language concepts in English in the beginning, German will be spoken increasingly throughout the year.
Students are expected to do weekly homework to ensure their progress in learning German.
